Rotary Club of La Jolla 2010 - 2011 President's Letter
Dear Rotarians and other friends,
I'm honored to be able to serve as President of the Rotary Club of La Jolla for the 2010 / 2011 term. The Club has an extremely talented Board this year and we have some distinct goals and objectives which we hope will help our great Club continue its wonderful traditions. Our Club members have embraced many terrific programs and activities. I would like to take this opportunity to briefly describe a few.
One area of tremendous importance is education. Our Scholarship programs, for example, are generating well over $100,000 per year in meaningful assistant for talented students from all corners of San Diego County to Tijuana. One of our goals is to bring the Club as close as possible to these programs through increased reports to, presentations to and involvement from the Club Membership. Another area of great excitement is our traditional fundraising show, Stars in Our Eyes. The show has been a great event which involves members, students, parents, teachers and many others in the community. We have been working on collaboration with the University of California San Diego Theatre Arts department to provide artistic direction to the show while our Rotary team concentrates on other aspects of the show. The collaboration looks very hopeful and I expect to make the 2011 show my main project for the year.
Additionally, I would like to emphasize fellowship. We have much work to do and working together will always add to the satisfaction of the results. I hope for some terrific Club gatherings this year. In addition to those programs mentioned above our Club has participated in a wide spectrum of wonderfully beneficial programs including Rotary International, all of which will continue to be supported.
To summarize, I think our mission is to improve our community, to improve our world and to improve the way that we improve. It is imperative, however, that we have fun doing it. This leads me to my motto for the year, "Improve and Enjoy".
I thank you again for the opportunity to lead the Club this Rotary year. I do so with high expectations and at the same time with great humility. I think we are going to have a great year and I look forward to it.
Best to all,
Mark E. Leinenweber
