Francisco Javier Urtasun Regional Vice President of External Relations San Diego Gas & Electric BIOGRAPHY Francisco “Frank” J. Urtasun is regional vice president of external relations for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). Over a 30-year career with the Sempra Family of companies, Mr. Urtasun has held several management positions, including Director of Community Affairs, Director of Local Government Affairs, and Director of Supply Management and Diverse Business Enterprise. Prior to his career at Sempra Energy, Urtasun worked in the construction industry, building both single and multi-family residential projects of his own. Currently, Mr. Urtasun serves on the Board of Directors of the 2015 Balboa Park Centennial Celebration Committee, the Downtown San Diego Partnership, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and, with his wife Caren, he chairs the Access to Independence 2012 Gala. For almost 10 years, Mr. Urtasun served as Port Commissioner for the San Diego Unified Port District and as Board Chairman during 1994 and 2001. He is lifetime Commissioner Emeritus of the Port. Mr. Urtasun has also served on the boards of the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Sharp Coronado Hospital, the San Diego Dialogue, St. Augustine High School, the San Diego County Planning Commission, the San Diego County Cable Television Review Commission, and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Urtasun is also a current Club 33 Rotarian. In 2011, Mr. Urtasun received the Whitney M. Young Leadership Award from the Urban League of San Diego. In 2007, Mr. Urtasun was recognized among the “Top Ten Lifetime San Diegans” by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Southwestern College and San Diego State University (SDSU), he has been recognized as an Outstanding Alumni of Southwestern College and was awarded the President’s Honorary Degree from Southwestern College in 1996. In 1997, he was named one of the top 100 SDSU graduates. Mr. Urtasun and his wife, Caren, reside in Coronado and have two adult children.
